Odisha Has 40K Registered Migrants; Highest 26K in Balangir

Currently, as many as 40,088 people from different parts of Odisha are working outside as migrant labourers, according to the State Government. 

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23: Currently, as many as 40,088 people from different parts of Odisha are working outside as migrant labourers, according to the State Government. 

Labour Minister Sarada Prasad Nayak gave this information in the State Assembly in response to a question from Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati. 

These workers have gone out through 626 licensed agents, the Minister said. 

Of the total registered workers, the highest number of 26, 151 Dadans (Migrant Labourers) are from Balangir district, while 1,467 Dadans have gone from Chief Minister's district Ganjam. Nuapada district has sent 8,205 Dadans to ouside the State.

Notably, the Winter Session of the Assembly was stalled today over the Tribals' Land Transfer issue. The House could not run Opposition BJP and Congress Members staged a protest in the Well of the House demanding withdrawal of the Tribals' land transfer ordinance and a discussion on the issue. 

Unable to run the proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the House till 4 PM. 

BJP Members also protested outside the Assembly and went to the Governor to place their demands.
