Odisha: Rs 55 Lakh Cash Seized From Car In Sonepur Ahead Of 2024 Elections

Sonepur, Apr 6: Ahead of the simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Odisha Assembly, police seized over Rs 55 lakh unaccounted cash from a car during a routine checking in Odisha’s Sonepur district on Saturday.

According to sources, police intercepted a Toyota Innova car near College chhak at Binika in the district this evening. While frisking the car, the police found bundles of cash in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 100, amounting to Rs 55.20 lakh, inside the vehicle.

As the occupants of the car failed to give satisfactory reply to possessing so much cash or show any relevant documents, police seized the cash and detained them

The car was on its way to Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. As many as six persons, including the driver, were travelling in the car, sources said.

Further investigation in this connection was underway, police said.
