Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan thanked PM Modi for featuring Sambalpur's Sujata Bhuyan in 'Mann Ki Baat', calling her journey a source of pride for Odisha.
New Delhi/Sambalpur, Mar 29: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for highlighting the inspiring journey of Sambalpur’s Sujata Bhuyan during 'Mann Ki Baat' programme, stating that the recognition has made the people of Odisha proud.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', Pradhan wrote, “Thank you to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for appreciating the work of Smt. Sujata Bhuyan from Sambalpur in today’s Mann Ki Baat programme and making the people of Odisha proud.”
He further noted that Sujata Bhuyan, through fish farming using ‘cage culture’ in the Hirakud reservoir, has not only become self-reliant but has also emerged as a guiding force for other women. “Her journey from a homemaker to a successful entrepreneur will inspire the entire women's community,” he added.

Describing her story as a powerful example of women’s empowerment, confidence and entrepreneurship, Pradhan said that starting as a homemaker, she adopted fish farming in the Hirakud reservoir and, within a few years, transformed it into a thriving enterprise.

He added that such efforts strengthen the spirit of self-reliant India and serve as a source of inspiration for countless women. “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for bringing this inspiring story from Sambalpur to the national stage,” Pradhan said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi, in today's episode of Mann Ki Baat, shared Sujata Bhuyan’s journey, highlighting her resilience and success in the fisheries sector while calling fishermen a “strong foundation of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Praising Sujata, the PM said, "The early days were not easy for her. Numerous challenges, such as weather changes, arranging food for the fish and balancing household responsibilities were there, but her spirit remained unwavering. Within just two or three years, she transformed her endeavour into a thriving business. Today, her success has become a new ray of hope for the women of the community."

Speaking during the 132nd episode of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi added, "Our fishermen brothers and sisters are not just warriors of the sea; they are also a strong foundation of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Battling the waves of the sea even before dawn, they set out to strengthen their families and the country's economy."
