Bhubaneshwar, June 16: Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan has expressed his deep grief over the demise of former Odisha Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare.

"I am saddened to hear the news of the passing away of former Governor of Odisha, prominent politician and lawyer, Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare. The works done during his tenure in Odisha with social service will be remembered forever. I pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul and express my condolences to the bereaved family," Pradhan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday night.

Veteran Congress leader and former Odisha Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare passed away late last night. He was 95.

Bhandare was a senior Congress leader from Maharashtra and a former Rajya Sabha member for three terms. He also practised as a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and served as Governor of Odisha from August 2007 to March 2013.

The current Governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other dignitaries condoled the death of Bhandare.
