Cuttack, Feb 9: Mangalabag Police arrested a doctor, his wife and three middlemen for allegedly being involved in conducting illegal pre-natal gender tests of pregnant women here in Odisha on Friday.

The accused doctor has been identified as Dr Punyasloka Das, a resident of Friends colony under  Mangalabag police limits in the district. 

According to sources, the Health department had received a tip-off that Dr Das was discreetly conducting sex determination tests at his residence.

Based on the information, a joint team of health department officials, police and other officials headed by Cuttack Sub-Collector conducted a raid at Dr Das' residence at Friends colony in the city today and seized ultrasound machine, medicine and other items from the spot. 

Police registered a case and started an investigation into the matter.
