  • Jharsuguda recorded the lowest temperature in Odisha at 6.8°C as cold wave conditions continued.
  • IMD issued a yellow alert for eight districts including Khordha, Cuttack, and Sundargarh for the next 24 hours.

Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: Cold wave conditions continued to prevail across several parts of Odisha on Friday, with Jharsuguda recording the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 6.8 degrees Celsius at 5:30am, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for cold wave conditions in eight districts for the next 24 hours. The districts covered under the alert are Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during early morning and night hours.

Weather officials said there is no significant change expected in minimum temperatures over the next three to four days. Cold conditions are likely to continue across the state until January 17, the department said.

The IMD further stated that a western disturbance is expected to influence weather conditions from January 18, which may lead to a gradual rise in temperatures across Odisha.

Minimum temperatures recorded at 5:30am.

Jharsuguda: 6.8°C
Keonjhar: 9.4°C
Chandbali: 12.2°C
Bhubaneswar: 12.4°C
Paradip: 12.4°C

The continued drop in night temperatures has led to chilly mornings in both coastal and interior districts. While western Odisha reported comparatively lower readings, coastal regions also experienced cooler-than-usual conditions.

Meteorological officials reiterated that the yellow warning indicates the need for heightened awareness, especially for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children and those with health conditions.
