Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: On the occasion of the 77 Republic Day,
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati unfurled the national flag at the
state-level function in Bhubaneswar, while Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi
led the celebrations in Cuttack on Monday, officials said.
At Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar, Governor Kambhampati
paid tribute to the framers of the Constitution and underscored the importance
of safeguarding democratic values. He highlighted Odisha’s strides in
infrastructure, education, and healthcare, while calling for collective
responsibility in building a stronger nation.
The ceremony featured a ceremonial march-past by 46
contingents, including personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF),
Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF), Home Guards, Civil Defence units, and
students from government and private institutions.
The parade also showcased 12 tableaux representing
achievements, welfare initiatives, and developmental milestones of various
government departments. Following the march-past, five cultural groups
presented captivating performances that reflected Odisha’s rich heritage and
diversity.

In Cuttack, Chief Minister Majhi unfurled the Tricolour at
the Barabati Stadium. In his address, he reiterated the State government’s
commitment to inclusive growth and welfare programmes. He emphasized Odisha’s
role in disaster management and resilience, noting that the State has emerged
as a model in handling cyclones and natural calamities. The celebrations
included tableaux, cultural displays, and patriotic songs performed by school
children.

Republic Day in Odisha traditionally witnesses a state-level
function in Bhubaneswar and district-level functions at the district headquarters
across the state. Security arrangements were tightened across the venues, with
police and paramilitary forces deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the events.
Thousands of people thronged the parade routes and stadium to witness the
celebrations, which concluded with the national anthem and a salute to the
Tricolour.
Republic Day, observed annually on January 26, commemorates
the adoption of the Constitution in 1950, marking India’s transition into a
sovereign democratic republic. Across Odisha, schools, colleges, and local
institutions also held flag-hoisting ceremonies, reinforcing the spirit of
unity and patriotism.
