Rs 2.35-Cr Fraud Case of Balasore: 2 Noida-Based Scammers Awarded 10-Year Rigorous Imprisonment

Balasore, Jan 27: The OPID court has sentenced two Noida-based fraudsters, Bijay Bharadwaj and Himanshu Bhandari, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed Rs 3 lakh fine on each after they were convicted in the Rs 2.35-crore fraud case.
The court has also ordered the convicts would undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years more if they fail to deposit the fine amount imposed on them.
The two were convicted in the fraud case registered on the allegation by Pramod Kumar Rout, a businessman of Joda in Keonjhar district against them. Rout petitioned that the two had cheated him of Rs 2.35 crore on the promise of paying him an indemnity of Rs 3 crore under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Rahat Kosh Yojana’ against his Insurance Policy with Max New York Life.

✨The two faked documents of the Income-Tax Department and the Reserve Bank of India to cheat Rout. They had even made fake phone calls in the name of the Union Ministry of Finance to build trust in Rout about them. They committed the fraud in 2019.
Rout made the complaint at the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) after failing to get back his money from the duo.
Based on his complaint, the EOW arrested Himanshu Bahandari first on March 15, 2022, and then Bijaya Bharadwaj on November 11, 2022. Later, chargesheet was filed against them by the EOW.
