Bhubanewsar, Apr 30: Cash worth Rs 75 lakh in Rs 500 denomination notes, was seized from two passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar in Odisha on Tuesday, ahead of the elections to Lok Sabha and State Assembly.

According to sources, one passenger arrived in the city from New Delhi and another from Chennai in Tamil Nadu. When their hand baggage were screened, CISF personnel found a huge amount of cash worth Rs 75 lakh.

CISF personnel then handed over the two persons and the cash to the Income Tax (IT) department for further probe.

The seizure of huge amounts of cash is a matter of concern as the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held simultaneously in Odisha in four phases from May 13 to June 1.
