Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Tensions flared at Utkal University this week as officials initiated a crackdown on non-students unlawfully residing in campus hostels. Anticipating possible unrest, police forces were deployed across the Vani Vihar premises, with security forces stationed at key entry points and hostel blocks.
The crackdown follows a four-day deadline issued by the university administration, instructing unauthorised occupants to vacate hostels including Gents Hostel-I, II, and III.
On Wednesday, the situation turned volatile when a group of non-students allegedly locked a hostel warden inside Gopabandhu Hostel during an inspection.
The incident prompted fears of further unrest, leading to the deployment of riot control units and additional law enforcement personnel.

✨As per the earlier notice issued by the university authorities, non-students residing in Hostel-I, II, and III were asked to vacate by Thursday. A list of non-students staying in Gopabandhu, Fakir Mohan, and Madhusudan hostels was also released earlier by the administration.
