Subarnapur, May 29: Blistering heat has taken a toll on people's lives in the  'City of rivers'. The people are not only dealing with scorching heat, but also the unbearable humidity. The unannounced power outrages have become the final nail in the coffin for the residents. 

After a few days of respite, the temperature Tuesday touched 45.3 degrees Celsius in the district. The mercury was over 30 degrees Celsius by 8.30 am Wednesday, reports the Meteorological Department. And if this continues, people as well as animals and birds will suffer a lot, said the residents.

Dried rivers and concretisation along with the forest situation give the people a worrying sign. The district has only 18 per cent of forest and the chances of getting new forests are as good as a no. The people feels that the radiation from ACs (Air Conditioners) is fueling the rise in heat.

It is also assumed that the drying of natural water streams is also helping the temperature rise up. In addition, the arbitrary of the Electricity Department and the unannounced power outrages have doubled people's worries. The people have demanded necessary steps from the administration in this regard.
