Puri, Jun 2: In a heartrending incident, two persons were killed and another sustained critical injuries as a coconut tree broke and fell on them in Tatilo gram panchayat under the Nimapara area in Puri district this morning. 

The deceased persons were identified as Mithun Pradhan and Trilochan Pradhan of Ratilo gram panchayat. The injured Bishwaranjan Acharya has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition. 

According to the informaiton, Mithun, Trilochan and Biswaranjan were returning home by a scooty when the fatal mishap occurred near Chitra under the Sagada area. Mithun and Trilockan reportedly died on the spot. 

The incident shocked the locals. 

On being informed, the police reached the spot and started an investigation after sending the bodies for postmortem.
