Cuttack, May 14: In a shocking incident, two students drowned in the Chitrotpala River under the Salepur area in Cuttack district last evening.
The deceased students have been identified as Sayed Mahammad Jisan and Shaikh Rihan of Kanpur village of Mirjapur panchayat under the Salepur police station limits.
According to information, five students, including Jisan and Rihan, were taking bath in the Chitrotpala River, while four of them were washed away. Some locals managed to rescue two of them, while the rest two remained untraced.
On being informed, fire personnel from Salepur rushed to the spot and started a search operation.
At around 9 pm, the fire personnel fished out the two students in an unconscious state and rushed them to the CHC, Salepur. However, doctors declared them dead.

A pall of gloom descended on the village following the sorrowful incident.
