Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: In the wake of recent unrest in Cuttack,
the Odisha Police on Monday issued a stern advisory urging citizens to refrain
from sharing unverified, false, or provocative content on social media. The
move comes after violence erupted during a bike rally organized by a Hindu
outfit, prompting a 36-hour curfew and internet suspension in sensitive areas
of the city.

Advisory Against Misinformation
The Odisha Police, through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals spreading fake news or misleading videos. Citizens were advised to verify the authenticity of any content before posting and to remain vigilant against attempts to disturb public peace.
“Some individuals are creating and spreading fake news to disturb the peace in society,” the advisory stated.
Violence During Unauthorised Rally
Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh revealed that eight people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence that occurred during the bike rally on Sunday evening. The rally, reportedly organized without permission, turned chaotic when stones were pelted at police personnel, forcing them to use force to disperse the crowd.

✨A total of three cases have been registered, and Singh confirmed that more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
Heavy Security Deployment
To restore normalcy, the administration has deployed 60 platoons of police, six companies of the Central Armed Police Force, and Rapid Action Force units across Cuttack. Both mobile and static forces are stationed in sensitive zones to instill public confidence.
DGP Y.B. Khurania has issued a warning to potential troublemakers, stating that any attempt to disrupt peace during the curfew will be dealt with strictly.

Internet Suspended
In a bid to curb the spread of misinformation, the Odisha
Home Department suspended internet services in Cuttack for 24 hours starting
Sunday evening.
Clash At Dargah Bazaar
According to police and witnesses, the first outbreak of violence occurred between 1:30 am and 2 am on Saturday, when a Durga idol immersion procession passing through the Dargha Bazaar area towards the banks of the Kathajodi river was halted by a group of locals who objected to high-decibel music being played late at night.
The clash escalated as stones and bottles were allegedly hurled from rooftops, prompting retaliation. Several were injured, including DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo. Police are investigating the incident and urging restraint amid heightened tensions.
CM Majhi Urges Harmony
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over recent unrest in Cuttack, urging citizens to preserve the city’s legacy of unity. Calling for peace, he condemned the actions of miscreants that disrupted communal harmony. “Cuttack’s thousand-year-old spirit of brotherhood must not be shaken,” he stated, appealing for calm and cooperation among residents.
