Sambalpur, Jan 25: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday unveiled the official logo and jersey of the Hirakud International Half Marathon 2026, which is scheduled to be held in Sambalpur on February 15, 2026.

The marathon is being organised with the objective of giving Hirakud a renewed identity on the international tourism map. The event is being hosted by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), with full support from the Odisha government.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Pradhan said, "The marathon is not merely a sporting event but a platform to showcase Hirakud at the global level. I thank MCL and the Odisha government for their efforts in organising the event and supporting the initiative."

He also appealed to citizens from all sections of society to participate and register in large numbers.

Pradhan said the event aims to promote tourism in the Sambalpur region while encouraging public awareness about health and fitness. He added that the marathon seeks to strengthen the message of building a healthy Sambalpur and a healthy Odisha.

The Union minister reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting tourism in Hirakud and said such events play an important role in highlighting the region’s cultural and natural significance.

Odisha Sports and Youth Services Minister Suraj Suryabanshi was present at the event. Other officials and representatives associated with the organisation of the marathon also attended the programme.

The Hirakud International Half Marathon is expected to attract participation from runners across different age groups and categories. Organisers have stated that the event will focus on inclusivity, fitness awareness and regional promotion through sports.

The marathon will be held in Sambalpur, with Hirakud serving as its central theme, highlighting the area’s significance as a major landmark in Odisha.
