“Penguin Random House India is proud to announce the commissioning of the first-ever comprehensive biography of President Draupadi Murmu by senior journalist Sandeep Sahu. Titled Madam President: A Biography of Draupadi Murmu, the book is poised to open a window to the life of India’s first woman tribal President and is scheduled to be released in late 2022,” it said in a release.
Murmu, a resident of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, took oath as the 15th President of India on July 25.
Born on June 20, 1958 in Baidaposi village of Mayurbhanj district, Murmu has held several key positions throughout her career.
Murmu, a tribal leader, started her political career as a councilor, later becoming the Vice-Chairperson of Rairangpur Notified Area Council (NAC) in Mayurbhanj district.
A two-time BJP legislator from Rairangpur Assembly constituency, Murmu was a minister in the Naveen Patnaik cabinet during the BJD and BJP coalition government in Odisha.
The tribal leader served as Minister of State with independent charge for Commerce and Transport from March 6, 2000 to August 6, 2002 and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August 6, 2002 to May 16, 2004.
She also served as the Governor of Jharkhand between 2015 and 2021.
On his part, Sahu said, “It's a real privilege and an honour to get an offer to write the biography of President Droupadi Murmu, being published by Penguin India.
