The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) unit will be functional at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on the occasion of the hospital’s 9th Foundation Day on July 15.
Bhubaneswar, Jul 14: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar will begin ECMO facility from tomorrow, Hospital sources said on Wednesday.
The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) unit will be functional on the occasion of the hospital’s 9th Foundation Day on July 15.
“This ECMO facility will treat critical Covid patients and for other critical cases of different ICUs. AIIMS, Bhubaneswar presently has some faculty members trained in handling ECMO machines, and the institute is hiring more technicians to operate the same, which will help people, especially those referred to outside treatment,” said an official.
“With a number of Covid-19 patients in the State requiring ECMO to survive, the facility at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar will certainly be helpful to tide over the crisis,” he added.
The premier healthcare institute will celebrate its foundation day tomorrow in virtual mode. Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr) Sachidananda Mohanty will elaborate the contribution of the Institute in handling the present COVID care along with recent progress of the institution like inauguration of much awaited ECMO Machine, inststallation of other technologies like Pediatric Bronchoscopy machine, PET-CT Scan machine, lithotripsy, DEXA Scan machine, etc, the official added.
