The deep depression over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal moved westwards with a speed of 17 kmph in last six hours and lay centered at 1130 am today over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal about 410 km east-southeast of Gopalpur and 480 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam.
The deep depression is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by 9 pm today. It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur by evening of September 26, 2021, informed a statement of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red warning predicting heavy to heavy rainfall to occur at a few places with extremely heavy ( more than 20cm) over the districts of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Korpaut, Nabarangpur and Gajapati districts in 24 hours between Sunday morning and Monday morning.
Due to heavy rainfall, flash flood/water logging and inundation are likely to occur in low lying areas and informal and kutcha houses may be damaged in Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur and Gajapati districts. Landslides also may occur.
The IMD also issue yellow warning of heavy rainfall to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir and Nuapada during the period.
