A group of youths were reportedly detained while selling beef in the name of mutton at Dalit Sahi near Jagannathprasad under Bhanjanagar area in Ganjam district early this morning.
Berhampur, Jun 26: In what can be termed as horrendous, a group of youths were reportedly caught red-handed while selling beef (meat of a cow) in the name of mutton (meat of a goat) at Dalit Sahi near Jagannathprasad under Bhanjanagar area in Ganjam district early this morning.
The police have detained three persons and are interrogating them in this connection.
According to information, a one-and-a-half-year-old male calf was stolen from the cowshed of a village farmer last night. The farmer and his neighours searched the calf a lot. However, they didn’t found it. They, however, saw that three youths were seeing for customers to sell some meat packed in a gunny back this morning. They suspected their gestures and informed police.
On being informed, the Jagannathprasad police rushed to the spot and detained the three youths. They also seized the meat and skin of the calf and a knife used in killing.
The detainees have been identified as Babula Naik, Hari Naik and Muna Naik of Dalit Sahi.
