Bhubaneswar, Jun 2: Even as violence against women is on the rise in Odisha, police inaction against culprits, as alleged by many of victims and their family members, has only added to their woes.
Fed up by nonresponsive attitude of police, a woman of Delanga area in Puri district attempted to commit suicide in front of the Chief Minister’s residence Naveen Nivas here on Wednesday. She alleged that she was tortured mentally and physically by her in-laws and husband for long but when she went to the police station against them her FIR was not registered.
According to information, security personnel deployed at the Naveen Nivas managed to stop the woman from taking any step to end life. The woman was handed over to the Airfield police station soon.
