Cauliflower, especially in Ganjam district, is grown in huge quantity in Aska, Hinjili and Sergarh block. This year too, these farmers cultivated cauliflower to earn little money. Plants at initial period were quite good but rainfall caused by low pressure wiped away everything. Cauliflower would have been produced a few days later, but everything was rotten.
A good amount of money is basically required for cauliflower farming. Now it has become a tough job for farmers to repay the loan borrowed from the nearest societies and other sources. Most importantly, cauliflower is exported from all these parts of Ganjam to different districts of the state and even outside the state, but cauliflower can no longer be exported this year. Farmers who borrowed money and farmed it have become extinct today. It is alleged that no government officials have ever visited the farm lands and paid attention to the plights of farmers. Farmers in large number are now desperately waiting for the support of the government to overcome the situation. On the one hand there is a burden of debt on the farmers when on the other hand there is lack of empathy and cooperation of the government towards the farmers. It remains to be seen when government assistance will be available.
