Bhubaneswar, May 17: Noted physician Dr Niroj Mishra on Monday said the Covid 19 infection started rising in rural areas of Odisha three weeks back and, thus, the Government should take immediate steps to contain the spread of the virus.
“Three weeks back, I had said that Covid cases started rising in rural areas of the State. Adequate numbers of testing are not being done in rural pockets. A few antigen tests are being done and 42 to 50 per cent reports of such tests come positive. This indicates that Covid infection has been on rise in villages,” said Dr Mishra.
“It seems not possible to enforce shutdown or lockdown in rural areas. Thus people should be made aware of Covid safety protocol through village chiefs, Sarpanches and NGO members,” said Dr Mishra.
He said Covid cases in rural areas will come down slowly.
He said Plasma Therapy is likely to be done away with as it has not helped in anyway raising recovery percentage or declining the death rate as per a study done by the ICMR.
