Keonjhar, Apr 28: Amid a sharp rise in Coronavirus cases, the Keonjhar district administration in Odisha on Wednesday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in all urban areas and the adjoining Panchayats of the district.
Section 144 of the CrPC prohibits assembly of four or more people. It has been imposed in all the urban areas and Panchayats adjacent to them across the district with effect from today in the wake of spike in Covid-19 cases, according to the order issued by the district administration.
The restrictions which are already in place to contain the spread of infection include daily night curfew in the urban areas, curtailed timings for closure of shops, barring those dealing in essentials, the order stated.
The residents will have to mandatorily take permission from the local authorities for marriages and funeral related events, it added saying that strict action will be taken against people violating the order.
Keonjhar district recorded as many as 175 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, according to the State Health and Family Welfare Department.
The district has currently 1029 active cases.
