The accused drug mafia, identified as Rajanikanta Patnaik of Khojapalli village under Khallikote police station limits in Ganjam district, has been smuggling ganja from Kandhamal to various places for the last 40 years, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Bhejipur Out-Post apprehended Patnaik while he was smuggling ganja.
Later, a team led by Chhatrapur SDPO Gautam Kisan and Khallikote IIC Jagannath Malik conducted a raid at Patnaik’s house in Khojapalli Badadanda Sahi.
During the raid, police seized a total of Rs 75 lakh in cash, 8.5 kg of gold, 34 kg of ganja, and 10 kg of opium from his possession.
The market value of the seized items would be around Rs 12 crores, police added.
The accused has been forwarded to the court and further investigation is underway, a police officer said
