The victim has been identified as Deheribudha Mallick, a resident of Kumarkani village under the same locality.
The victim had been to attend nature’s call at around 10 pm last night when the animal struck. While getting freshen up in the pond an Indian sloth bear pounced on him and attacked.
While Deheribudha managed to save his life by putting up a fight with the bear, he sustained critical head and leg injuries during the incident.
After reaching his village on his own he was rushed to Sonepur medical for treatment by the villagers.
Locals are demanding monetary assistance for the victim post the incident as he is very poor and cannot bear the expense of medical treatment.
