The deceased has been identified as Subashi Singh, 62, wife of Madhubani Singh of Budapada village.
As per reports, the incident occurred yesterday at around 5 pm when Subashi went to the backyard of their house. She noticed a lone wild there and tried to run to the house. But, the wild elephant charged at her and trampled her to death.
On being informed, local police and forest officials reached the spot and initiated a probe in to the matter.
The locals alleged that forest officials remained mute spectators when informed about ‘elephant havoc’ in the villages. “The forest officials have not taken any step to drive away the elephant heard from the human habitation in the region despite repeated requests in this regard,” locals said.
A pal of gloom has descended to the village following the demise of the woman in elephant attack.
