Bhubaneswar, Sep 17: Farmers of Jagatsingpur district have once again resented the alleged rude behaviour of Jagatsinghpur district Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra.
According to information, Mohapatra had gone to Samantarapur and Sirasta villages under Tirtol area to listen to grievances of farmers. While farmers narrated their plights arisen out of incessant rains, Mohapatra allegedly used slangs and passed caste remarks on them.
“I humbly asked the district Collector when our longstanding canal and irrigation problems will be resolved, he immediately abused me and rudely asked to know why I wore Chandan chita on my forehead. He even questioned my integrity to put a question to him and held me by my collar,” alleged a farmer.
People alleged that Mohapatra is giving focus on development of his native Tirtol area in the district.
In his reaction, former Minister Dr Damodar Rout criticized the Government for appointing Mohapatra as Collector in his own district. “As per Book Circular 42, a person can be appointed as a Collector or BDO or Tehsildar in his own district. It is not understood, how the Government appointed him and if would transfer him. Misbehavour is never expected from a district Collector,” said Rout.
Rout too informed that a criminal case has been pending against Mohapatra. “While he was posted as IDCO Land Acquisition Officer, Mohapatra had misbehaved with people in the then proposed Posco project area. Then, a criminal case had been fined against him,” said Dr Rout.
