Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: On the basis of reliable information, the Special Task Force (STF) team conducted a raid at a place near Biribati Canal Road under Kandarpur area in Cuttack district and seized a live pangolin from a miscreant last evening.
The miscreant, identified as Santosh Kumar Dalai of Gumutipur of Dhiasahi area in Jagatsinghpur district, has also been arrested.
According to information, Santosh was about to make a deal with some persons for sale of the live Pangolin on Tuesday evening when the STF team, acting of a tip-off, conducted raids and nabbed him with the endangered animal. The STF team also seized some incriminating materials from his possession.
“The accused person could not produce any valid reason in support of possession of such live pangolin for which he has been arrested. He will be forwarded to the SDJM Court, Cuttack today,” said STF Additional SP Tejraj Patel on Wednesday.
A case has been registered against Santosh under Sections 379/411 of IPC and 51 of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, he said.
The ASP too stated that the pangolin will be given to Nandankan authority for nurture. Further investigations are on, he added.
