Bhubaneswar, Mar 18: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 4 pm on Thursday after opposition BJP and Congress created a ruckus over alleged irregularities in procurement of paddy in the State.
As soon as the House assembled today on the sixth day of the second part of the Budget session, the BJP and Congress MLAs started raising slogans against the State Government over alleged mismanagement in paddy procurement.
The opposition members also raised questions on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's silence over the stalemate.
On the other hand, the treasury bench members demanded BJP MLA Subhas Panigrahi to tender an apology for attempting to suicide in the House.
Unable to run the House due to the noisy protest in the well, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the proceedings twice, first till 12 noon and next till 4 pm today.
When the House was adjourned till 12 noon, the Congress MLAs staged a dharna near the Gandhi statue inside the Assembly premises protesting against the alleged mandi irregularities across the State and continuous stalemate in the proceedings of the House.
Notably, no business could be transacted in the Assembly for the sixth consecutive day as the treasury bench and the opposition continued to press their demands.
