Bhubaneswar, May 22: The Election Commission of India has once again revised the date of by-poll to the Pipili Assembly seat in Odisha.
Voting for the by-poll, which was rescheduled to be held on May 13, will now be held on May 16. Similarly, the date of counting of votes changed from May 16 to May 19.
Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha Sushil Lohani informed about the changes.
Sources said the voting date was revised again in view of upcoming Eid festival.
It may be noted that by-poll to the Pipili Assembly seat, which has been necessitated due to death of sitting MLA Pradeep Maharathy, was first scheduled to be held on April 17. However, it was rescheduled to May 13 as Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj died of Covid on May 14. Now, the date has changed to May 16.
While BJD candidate Radra Pratap Maharathy, BJP candidate Ashrit Pattanayhak and seven other candidates are already in the fray, Congress has been allowed by the ECI to field a candidate in place of late Mangaraj.
As per the last notification issued by the ECI, the last date for filing nomination is April 26 while April 27 is the date of scrutiny of nominations. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 29.
