Elections to three Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha will be held as the tenure of three Rajya Sabha members from the State- Prasanna Acharya, N Bhaskar Rao and Sasmit Patra will end on July 1.
The BJD having 114 MLAs in the State Assembly will likely to get all its three candidates elected. The BJP and Congress strength in the State Assembly are 22 and 9, respectively.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced that the biennial elections to as many as 57 seats of Rajya Sabha will take place on June 10.
These seats are spread across 15 states and Union territories (UTs), including Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, among others.
The ECI said that the notification for the ensuing Rajya Sabha polls will be issued on May 27, last date for nomination is May 31, scrutiny will be held on June 1, polling is on June 10 from 9 am to 4 pm and the counting of votes will begin at 5 pm on the same day.
The Chief Secretaries of all 15 states have been directed to depute a senior officer to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the election, the poll panel added.
Notably, the Rajya Sabha has 245 members, and the majority mark stands at 123.
