The mishap took place in the morning while the ill-fated ambulance was returning after dropping a patient in Cuttack. Near Dandakali temple the driver of a trailer truck which was coming from the opposite direction lost control over the wheels and ended up hitting the ambulance head-on.
While two persons boarding the ambulance died on the spot three others along with the trailer driver turned critical.
Police rescued the victims by reaching the spot and sent them to a hospital for treatment.
The identification of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.
