The accused shopkeepers have been identified as T. Pravakar Rao, Siba Prasad Sahu, Manas Jena and Shamin Khan. All are residents of the State Capital and run electronics shop in separate places in the city.
Acting on a tip off, the Special Squad of Commissionerate Police conducted raids at four electronics shop located at Laxmisagar, Badagada, Airport and Mancheswar area in the city and seized as many as 120 duplicate TV sets from their possessions.
Police also seized duplicate parts and good worth lakhs of rupees from the four electronics shops. The police said that the accused have been committing the fraud for quite some time now.
According to Police, the accused persons would buy duplicate television parts from Kolkata and assemble these at their shops. They would put stickers of branded companies on them and sell these duplicate products in the retail market at low prices.
Efforts are on to find out if any other persons are involved in the racket, a police officer said.
