The BJP on Monday severely criticized the State Government for rise in cases of violence against women and children and other criminal cases in Odisha.
Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: The BJP on Monday severely criticized the State Government for rise in cases of violence against women and children and other criminal cases in 2020 compared to figures of the preceding two years.
“The BJD Government is talking big of giving respect to women. Cases of violence against women have risen. Women and minor girls are unsafe in the State. Crimes are occurring under patronage of BJD leaders,” alleged BJP general secretary Dr Lekhasri Samantsinghar at a Press meet here.
Quoting the recent report of the National Crime Bureau Record (NCRB), Samantsinghar said 113 per 1 lakh women were tortured in Odisha in 2020. The State saw as many as 20 gang-rape incidents in the year. Over 30,000 women have been kidnapped.
“The number of kidnapping of minor girls is on the rise. Despite our repeated demands, the State Government neither publish a whitepaper on abduction and killing of Nayagarh minor girl Paree not punish the culprits. In mysterious ACF death case, police have not found any clue till now. Instead of conducting investigation, police are busy in destroying evidences,” alleged Samantsinghar further.
She said crimes against women have increased 10 fold during the Covid period. The crime graph is high in the Chief Minister’s home district, Ganjam.
She demanded that police should try to control law and order situation instead of doing VIP protection duty.
Commenting on the drowning of a 15-year-old girl in a drain in Bhubaneswar, Samantasinghar expressed unhappiness saying nobody in the Government took responsibility for the sorrowful incident.
