The giant fish was spotted by some villagers in the nullah connecting Kantiachera-Jamuka sea mouth in the morning. People in large numbers assembled to take a glimpse of the shark within minutes.
The dead shark will weigh around 5 quintals.
While the exact cause of the death of the whale shark is yet to be ascertained, district administration officials have rushed to the spot.
Locals have claimed that the dead shark is the same one which had been caught in the net of a fisherman three days back. After objection of the fellow fishermen he had released it to the sea.
Villagers have expressed their concern over the death of the giant fish and blamed administration’s tardy action against the illegal fishing in the area for the menace.
