
Police rescued a man from self-immolation at Irrigation Department Office at Basudevpur in Bhadra district on Saturday. The man was attempting self-immolation for salary nonpayment.
Bhadrak, Jun 26: Police rescued a man from self-immolation attempt at Irrigation Department Office at Basudevpur in Bhadra district on Saturday. The man was attempting the extreme step in life after being disgusted over non-payment of salary for 57 months.
According to information, Das, a resident of Mandari village under Basudevpur Municipality, had been appointed in the Irrigation Department on a temporary basis in 1983. He was enrolled NMR in 1986. However, he was not getting any wage for his work. He approached the court in 1989. He was given Rs 99,000 through the court in 2003. But he is yet to get salaries for 57 months.
Frustrated over the negligence, Das poured kerosene over him and tried to ignite fire. However, police personnel and some staff present there rescued him.
