Buguda, Jan 4: In yet another case of elephant attack in the State, at least one person sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a wild tusker on Nuapalli forest road under Buguda Reserve Forest area in Ganjam district on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Chaitanya Maharaj. He was living at the Rampad temple here for past few years as a monk.
The monk was returning temple on foot after purchasing tea from a nearby shop in the morning when the pachyderm attack took place. A wild tusker which was roaming in the forest chased and lifted him with its trunk to slam to the ground.
Maharaj was rushed to Buguda Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical conditions post the attack by some fellow monks. He was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital due to deteriorating condition.
