The guard of honour was given to her after performing funeral rituals in the presence of several dignitaries, including Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh and CMC Commissioner Ananya Das. Her nephew lit the funeral pyre.
Binapani Mohanty passed away at the age of 85 at her residence in Cuttack on Sunday. The late legendary writer had penned several ageless poems and over 100 books which brought her laurels across the nation.
After starting her career with the publication ‘Gotie Ratira Kahani’ Mohanty went on to write popular stories like Naiku Rasta, Pata Dei, Khela Ghara, Kasturi Mruga O Sabuja Aranya, Michhi Michhika so on and so forth.
She had been conferred with Padma Shri in Literature and Education category in 2020, Atibadi Jagannath Das award, Sahitya Akademi Award and Sarala Samman.
Her creation ‘Pata Dei’ was published as Lata in Femina in 1986. Its Hindi dramatisation was telecast in Doordarshan as a series called ‘Kashmakash’ in 1987. Her works have been translated into English, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali, among others.
Her departure has left a void in Odia literary field.
