According to the Vigilance Department, Junior Revenue Assistant Bhargab Mahakud had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a man in order to process the file in a mutation case for issuance of ROR (Patta) in his favour.
The man however approached the Vigilance Department and sought action against the accused Junior Revenue Assistant.
Based on the complaint, the Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Mahakud red-handed while he was taking the bribe amount from the complainant today.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Mahakud in the presence of witness and seized, officials said.
Following the trap, the Vigilance officials conducted simultaneous raids at two places associated with Mahakud on charges of amassing disproportionate assets from his known sources of income.
In this connection, Balasaore Vigilance registered a case against accused Mahakud under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment). Act, 2018. Further investigation the accused official is underway, officials added.
