The accused persons have been identified as Raj Kishore Khuntia and Gundicha Khuntia of Fategarh area in Nayagarh district.
As per reports, a team of Khordha Forest Division personnel, posing as customers, made a deal with the smugglers. Subsequently, the accused had brought the pangolin scales for sale where officials caught them red-handed.
Pangolin scales weighing over 3 kg were recovered from the accused duo, who admitted that they had brought the pangolin scales to Kalapathar to sell these, an official said.
“A case has been registered against the accused duo and further investigation is underway”, he added.
As per wildlife experts, pangolin is protected under the Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act.
