While a seriously ailing woman was carried by her husband, an ailing unmarried girl was shouldered by her father to doctors in the Casualty Department due to unavailability of stretchers. However, oxygen cylinders, medicines and saline bottles were seen carried in stretchers.
According to information, a woman, wife of Rama Singh of Cuttack district’s Brahmanjharilo area, has been undergoing treatment in the Plastic Surgery Department for a few days now. Her treating doctor had advised her to undergo for a test. To take to the testing point, her husband had sought for a stretcher or an e-rickshaw. But he could not get either of them. With no option left, Rama carried her in his arms to the main gate of the SCB for test.
The incident has shocked many.
“It is shocking that patients are not getting stretchers in the SCB Medical when the State Government is claiming to make it a world-class health facility,” said a person who eye-witnessed the incident.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Officer of the medical said he has not received any such allegation. “If such an incident comes to our knowledge, we will certainly take steps to ensure that such incident doesn’t happen in coming days,” said the Emergency Officer.
