Berhampur, Aug 4: In a heart wrenching incident, a man allegedly set his wife on fire by pouring petrol on her in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The incident took place at Sana Aryapalli village under Aryapalli marine police station limits in the district this morning.
The accused has been identified as B Mukodu.
As per reports, Mukodu’s wife B Arama was staying at her parental residence at after a family feud with her husband. The couple has reportedly three minor children.
Mukodu allegedly picked a fight with his wife near Gandhi Chhak this morning when she was on her way to work place. The fight turned ugly when Mukodu poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze on the road following which the woman sustained critical burn injuries.
Locals rescued Arama in a critical condition and rushed her to Chhatrapur Sub-Divisional Hospital. After primary treatment, the victim was shifted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur.
The victim’s condition was stated to be critical when the last reports came in.
On being informed, police reached the spot and detained the accused person.
“A case has been registered in this connection; the accused has been detained; further investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
