Berhampur, Apr 26: Proving curiosity to watch wild elephant herd incursion into the village to be costly, a man was killed and another sustained critical injuries in tusker attack in Chandapur village of Chikiti area in Ganjam district on Sunday night.
As per the report, a herd of 14 wild elephants had wreaked havoc in villages located close to Pitatali-Sonepur road for past few days. The victims identified as Brundaban Bindhani and Babuni Bindhani of Chandapur had gone out of their village late last night to have a glimpse of the jumbos when the mishap took place.
One of the tuskers reportedly attacked Brundaban and trampled him to death on the spot. Babuni who was also chased and attacked the tusker somehow managed to save his life but later turned critical.
Babuni was rushed to a local hospital by some villager later in the night and then shifted to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur for better treatment.
Forest Department officials have reached the spot and kept close watch on the movement of the herd to prevent further damage to lives and property in the nearby villages.
