Being tipped-off that the ganja consignment was being sent to an unknown location in a car in the morning a team of officials comprising of Inspector Hrudaychandra Samal, Geetanjali Sahu and Brajabihari Nayak and sevral other officials launched a raid.
During the crackdown which was held near a river bank in Simanbadi under the direction of Excise Commissioner Asish Kumar Singh, the officials intercepted a car and an escort bike to recover 1,250 kg of ganja.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Bachan Digal, who happens to be a local residence escaped from the spot during the raid.
The market value of the seized ganja consignment will be around Rs 62 lakh, said Excise Department sources.
A manhunt has been launched to arrest the peddler who escaped from the spot.
