Koraput, Jul 10: Police seized around 1,204 kg of ganja from a banana-laden truck near Mohanpada chhak in Sunabeda area in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday night.
Two inter-state smugglers have been arrested in this connection. The accused duo has been identified as Rajiv Kumar Mahato of Jharkhand and Raman Kumar of Bihar.
As per reports, Sunabeda Police intercepted a banana-laden truck near Mohanpada chhak during their routine patrolling last night.
During the search, the cops recovered round 1,204 kg of ganja, packed in several bags and kept under banana, from the truck. Subsequently, they seized the contraband item and the vehicle.
The market value of seized ganja is expected to be more than Rs 1 crore, a senior police officer said.
During investigation, the police found that the accused duo had procured the ganja from Jalaput area in Koraput district and planned to transport the contraband to Bihar.
The accused persons have been booked under the NDPS Act and investigation is underway to find out the locals involved in the crime, police said.
