Bhubaneswar, May 17: A joint team of Quick Action Team (QAT) of Odisha Police and Mancheswar Police on Monday seized 518 gram of brown sugar from High-tech Hospital Square here in Odisha and arrested two drug peddlers in this connection.
The accused persons are residents of Jaleswar area in Balasore district and have been involved in drugs smuggling on the pretext of selling fish, police said.
Acting on a tip off, the joint team of QAT and Mancheswar Police intercepted a Bolero bearing Regd No: OD 01 AF 8130 near High-tech Hospital Square in the city.
During the search, police recovered brown sugar weighing 518 gram from the vehicle.
The value of seized brown sugar would be more than 50 lakh rupees, said a senior official.
Police also seized two mobile phones, Rs 1900 in cash and the Bolero used in drug peddling.
“A case under Sections 21 (c) and 29 of NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered against the accused duo. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
